Audience and Objectives
This conference offers community healthcare professionals (lactation consultants, public health nurses, clinic nurses, mental health professionals, dieticians, physicians, midwives, doulas, and childbirth educators) an opportunity to learn about breastfeeding/chestfeeding challenges and issues experienced by parents after leaving the hospital or beyond the first few days after birth.

Objectives
At the end of the 2018 conference, you will be able to:
- Describe ways that physical therapists and lactation professionals can collaborate to care for individuals with lactation pain
- Explain ways the lymphatic system interplays with lactation physiology, influencing lactation pain
- Identify some of the common challenges that many dyads experience and how lactation professionals can offer support
- Identify nutrition goals and benefits of human milk for the preterm population
- Review nutrients in human milk vs estimated needs
- List methods of fortification and situations when it is needed
- Describe how breastfeeding is supported in the NICU
- Discuss the dimensions involved in efficient milk transfer
- Provide language and demonstration of touch that can be shared with the parent to facilitate relaxation and calming of the infant through patient presence.
- Identify multiple physical symptoms of ‘burnout’ and the impact of chronic stress
- Identify multiple body systems that are affected by burnout and how they are interconnected
- Identify multiple treatments or modalities that can be utilized in their self-care or in conjunction with medical providers to address chronic stress and burnout
